Muskegon Star Cameron Martinez Talks Michigan's New OC Josh Gattis, Updates Interest in Wolverines

Michigan football has high hopes for Muskegon (Mich.) 2020 three-star quarterback Cameron Martinez to join the Wolverines as a slot wide receiver on offense and safety on defense.

Since Martinez is being recruited to play offense some capacity, he took notice of Michigan’s recent hiring of Josh Gattis, the former co-offensive coordinator at Alabama.

Gattis is now the offensive coordinator under coach Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor.

“I think it’s a really good pick up,” Martinez said. “I can’t wait to meet him when I go back to visit. He’s helped programs win. He’s a winning coach. Anytime you have somebody on staff like that, it’s big.”

Martinez said he will take an unofficial visit to Michigan sometime during the basketball season, but he is still finalizing dates.

“I’m just looking forward to talking to the coaches more and getting to know them,” he added.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound two-way prospect has offers from Michigan, Alabama A&M, Boston College, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Northern Illinois. Northwestern, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Michigan, Northwestern, Boston College and Kentucky are at the top of his list.

Besides Michigan, Martinez plans to make other trips to Northwestern, Boston College, Indiana, Ohio State, LSU and others in the spring and summer.

Martinez is shooting to make a commitment before or after the 2019 season. He is ranked No. 494 in the nation, No. 39 at the athlete position and No. 17 in Michigan, per the 247Sports Composite.
