Halftime Analysis of No. 7 Michigan vs No. 10 Florida

The season finale is here for the Michigan football team as they take on the Florida Gators in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Michigan started the game with a huge 46-yard touchdown run by Michigan running back Christian Turner, but it was overturned as Turner stepped out of bounds and Michigan didn’t get any points on that drive.

After a stop by the Michigan defense and another stop by Florida, the Gators offense would end up driving down the field before choking inside the five and settling for a field goal, taking the 3-0 lead.

Michigan wouldn’t let Florida have the lead for long as the offense drove down the field thanks to two big passes to wide receiver Nico Collins and finished with a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Shea Patterson to wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones as Michigan took the 7-3 lead.

Florida would respond lightly with a field goal of their own, cutting the lead down to 7-6.

Michigan then got some momentum and blocked the punt and gave the offense good field possession, but the offense wouldn’t move the ball much as kicker Jake Moody came out and nailed a 48-yard field goal to take the 10-6 lead.

Florida kept running the ball with Franks as he would finish their next drive with a 20-yard touchdown run to give the Gators another lead, up 13-10. Michigan would try a 52-yard field goal, but Moody would miss it and the Gators would keep the lead 13-10 at halftime.

POSITIVES:

  • Michigan’s passing game has been doing well so far in the first half. Patterson is 9/12 for 119 yards and a touchdown. Collins and Peoples-Jones have stepped up big for the passing game, Collins with three catches for 61 yards and Peoples-Jones has four for 32 yards and a touchdown.
  • Without defensive end Rashan Gary and with defensive end Chase Winvoich being limited with his shoulder injury, the Wolverines front seven is still doing well on putting pressure on Franks when it comes to passing plays as they have gotten a sack as well on Franks.

NEGATIVES:

  • Michigan’s defense is struggling to stop either Florida quarterbacks when it comes to running the football. That is one of the things the defense has struggled with to stop all season long. So far, both Felepie Franks and Emroy Jones have 12 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown.
  • Michigan’s offensive line is having some issues containing the Gators defensive line. Patterson has gotten sacked a few times and has faced a lot of pressure. The running game isn’t working much either, only 40 yards on 16 carries for the Wolverines.
