Florida CB: 'I Don't Think (Michigan) Prepared Too Well'

ATLANTA — It went from being not an ideal situation to a debacle in a heartbeat.

Michigan looked like the better team than Florida to start the game, but those old weekly hazards — starting slow offensively, an incapability to run the ball, pass protection issues — things that had been seemingly vanquished after the Notre Dame game reared their ugly head in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

And just when Michigan looked like it was in a position to mount a comeback, one name kept popping back up on the Gators defense: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

Gardner-Johnson had two interceptions on Saturday for a total of 83 yards and two touchdowns. After the game, he said that he and his teammates made it a point to come out and outplay Michigan, and that they weren’t gonna to bow down to a Wolverines team that was 4-0 against the Gators before Saturday.

“A lot of guys stepped up,” Gardner-Johnson said. “We already knew what was expected from us. A lot of people thought they were just going to come out, punch us in the mouth, push us around because they’re bigger than us. We showed a lot of heart and a lot of fight and treated it like a regular week.”

But he didn’t end there. Directly after the above, Gardner-Johnson — who of course, had a big day and a monster game — as the game-winner, is certainly entitled to talk trash.

And, given the opportunity, unabated, Gardner-Johnson criticized Michigan’s preparation compared to Florida’s.

“I don’t know how they prepared,” Gardner-Johnson said. “But I don’t think they prepared too well. Definitely came out there and won the game on both sides of the ball.”

Michigan, of course, was without team captain and consensus All-American, linebacker Devin Bush Jr., as well as star defensive end Rashan Gary, both of which declared early for the NFL Draft and opted to sit out the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
