Michigan Bowl Prep Notes: Some Young Players Standing Out

Spoke to several sources that have knowledge of Michigan’s bowl preparation over the course of the past week.

When I checked in, there was one name that kept coming up over and over again, and from people who pay attention to either side of the ball: freshman running back Christian Turner.

I’m told that Turner is getting close to equal reps with incumbent running back Chris Evans and upstart tailback Tru Wilson. One source indicated that Turner “keeps amazing” the coaching staff, while another said, “he’s gonna go off in the bowl game.” Alongside Turner, sources indicated that fellow true freshman Hassan Haskins, who had been practicing on the defensive side of the ball, has been back with the running backs. While Turner has been the head — mover — I was told that Haskins “might be the most gifted” of the current tailbacks.

On the defensive side, while I’ve heard good things about stalwarts such as Bryan Mone, the play of redshirt freshman Donovan Jeter has gotten a lot of praise. One source said, “He’s made big gains since the end of the season.” I’m also told that the play of true freshmen defensive backs Sammy Faustin and Vincent Gray has been impressive.

Stay tuned to WolverinesWire, as we’ll be live down in Atlanta all week for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
