Michigan Commit on New QB Pledge JD Johnson: 'I like this guy'

Belleville (Mich.) quarterback coach reached out to one of his players on Dec. 15 – the same day as Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle 2020 three-star quarterback JD Johnson’s unofficial visit to Michigan,

The two situations tie together because Riddle told his player, Michigan 2020 four-star cornerback commit Andre Seldon, to start recruiting Johnson.

“This kid is super legit for the class of 2020,” Riddle mentioned to Seldon.

Seldon, who has been committed to the Wolverines since June 20, immediately went to Johnson’s Hudl film and began watching.

The cornerback’s first impression was, “I like this guy.”

Johnson committed to Michigan on Dec. 21, and Seldon is excited to join forces with him in Ann Arbor down the road.

“I’m pumped about having him in our class,” Seldon added. “I think his mobility in and out of the pocket will help spread the offense out and do damage.”

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound pro-style quarterback is ranked No. 558 in the nation, No. 25 at his position and No. 18 in Arizona, according to 247Sports.

Johnson’s primary recruiter from Michigan is quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton.

“The process with Michigan did move fairly quickly, but the recruiting process for me has been going on for over a year,” Johnson said. “On my unofficial last week, I just had a better feeling about where I would fit in, the academic piece, and the resources available to athletes to develop to be their very best.”

Seldon is ranked No. 283 in the 2020 class, No. 24 at cornerback and No. 5 in Michigan.
