Zach Harrison Update

247Sports Crystal Balls have been rolling in on Tuesday morning for Ohio State in regards to Lewis Center (OH) Olentangy Orange five-star defensive end Zach Harrison, including that of The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb.

I had spoken with my best source, among others, and while the indication was still that Ohio State expected Zach Harrison to go out of state, and that Michigan had been in wait-and-see mode, I’m told the situation has indeed changed. We at WolverinesWire expect Zach Harrison to announce for and sign with Ohio State on Wednesday.

We were the first to put in a 247Sports Crystal Ball for Harrison to Michigan based off intel we had received over the summer (that Crystal Ball prediction ability has since been rescinded). At the time, we were told that it was more of a Michigan-Penn State battle, due to Harrison’s desire to get out of state. While his family is living in metro Columbus, and are originally from the Chicago area, his mother seemed to show a strong affinity for Ohio State, and the things that came along with that. However, sources indicated that Harrison himself had a disdain for both the Buckeyes and then-head coach Urban Meyer, who has since resigned. There was an attempt to win over Tracey Harrison, which seemed to be working, in the late summer. Zach Harrison, meanwhile, delayed his original commitment date from Aug. 14 while he continued to mull things over.

Harrison visited Michigan again on Oct. 13 for the Wisconsin game, and his bond continued to grow with his hosts, Luiji Vilain and Kwity Paye. We’re told by a source that he continued to keep in contact with several Michigan players and coaches down the stretch, as well as soon-to-be signees, like Giles Jackson, who said as much this morning on the Locked on Wolverines podcast.

Ultimately, we’re told that the desire to go away from home didn’t end up being a deciding factor, but staying close to family did. Sources have indicated that Michigan was confident in recent days that Harrison would still join the fold, but it does not expect him to be a part of the class as of now.

By another source, I’m also told that Ohio State has not yet been informed of Harrison’s decision. Regardless, The expectation is now fully that he will be a Buckeye.

Now Michigan will wait to see what former commit, five-star Daxton Hill will do after sources have indicated there is an expectation he could flip back from Alabama. For more details on that situation, listen to this morning’s podcast.
