Michigan RB O'Maury Samuels Dismissed from Program

On Wednesday, Michigan just got a little thinner at the running back position.

The 2019 group was going to be thinner due to attrition anyway, with Karan Higdon’s eligibility being up, but now, a promising young tailback is on his way out of the program.

2017 Las Lunas (NM) four-star running back O’Maury Samuels was the top-rated recruit in the 2017 class in New Mexico. In 2017, he saw some spot duty, getting 8 carries for 13 yards, but saw increased production in 2018, with 13 carries for 66 yards. But, in a statement by a Michigan spokesperson, Samuels is a Wolverine no longer, having been dismissed from the program.

Simply stated:

Student O’Maury Samuels has been dismissed from the Michigan Football program.

For the 2019 roster, that leaves Chris Evans, Tru Wilson, Christian Turner and Hassan Haskins from previous classes, with four-star Zach Charbonnet joining the class this upcoming offseason.

Michigan already saw fellow 2017 signee Kurt Taylor make a decision this season to transfer from the program, and 2019 commit Eric Gray decommitted from the program just weeks ago.

While there are no details as to why Samuels has been dismissed, he had a big opportunity to make a splash, with one game left in 2018, in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, to be played on Dec. 29 in Atlanta against Florida.

Update:

Per Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis, Samuels has been charged with a domestic violence count and another on destruction of property, and will be charged later this month.
