Michigan Defensive Coordinator Don Brown Interviewed For Temple Head Coaching Job

Jim Harbaugh’s staff could take another huge hit this offseason, this being the biggest one of them all. First Harbaugh lost his wide receivers coach Jim McElwain to Central Michigan University for a head coaching gig, now he might lose his defensive coordinator and possibly the best assistant on the staff Don Brown.

According to The Inquirer, Brown interviewed for the head coaching position at Temple, but he wasn’t alone. Temple interim head coach Ed Foley, Miami (FL) defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, and Baylor assistant head coach/corners coach Francis Brown all applied for the position as well along with 8 to 10 other candidates.

Since arriving at Michigan in 2016, taking over for D.J. Durkin who left to become the head coach of Maryland, Brown has reformed and reshaped the Wolverines defense to become something incredible. They were tied for the first ranked defense in 2016, then ranked third in the country in 2017 and were in sole possession of the number one defense in 2018.

Brown isn’t the only other staff member on Harbaugh’s staff that is interviewing for head coaching positions. Assistant head coach Pep Hamilton was in the final three for the head coaching job at Maryland.

Losing Brown would be a huge blow to the team and recruiting. Brown knows how to coach a defense very well and some players might be coming to Michigan to play for Brown because of how special he is. Brown is easily the best defensive coordinator in college football and losing him would do some damage to the defense.

Like many in the Big Ten are happy that Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is retiring so they don’t have to face him anymore, many in the Big Ten would be happy to see Brown leave as they wouldn’t have to see his defense anymore.
