Caden Kolesar Commits to Michigan (Grayshirt)

As the graphic showed in his tweet on Tuesday morning, the legacy continues. Now we’ll see if 2019 Lakewood (OH) St. Edwards three-star ATH Caden Kolesar can live up to the benchmarks set by his father John when he played wide receiver at Michigan in the mid-1980s.

And the legacy shall continue on in Ann Arbor, as the younger Kolesar announced on Twitter that he is committing to the University of Michigan after having received a grayshirt offer.

As a grayshirt, Kolesar will not enroll in classes (or at least won’t as part of the football team in official capacity) until the Winter 2020 semester, and his scholarship will count in the 2020 class, even though he’s a 2019 prospect coming out of high school.

Kolesar, who’s 5-foot-10, 195-pounds, has six offers from other schools, including Akron, Army, Bowling Green and Indiana State among them.

In a profile written this past summer by Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis, Kolesar said that continuing his father’s legacy in Ann Arbor was something that he couldn’t shake.

“There is that legacy in the back of my mind,” Caden said. “In my room, I have a picture of my grandpa in his uniform. It was a big part of my dream going to Michigan. That dream is still there. It would be fun if I’m able to go there and carry on that legacy, that tradition.”

While it has yet to be determined on the football field which role Kolesar will play, his highlights boast of his safety play — though he is capable of playing on both sides of the ball.
