Eric Gray Decommits from Michigan

Michigan has officially lost a commit in the 2019 class and many saw it coming.

Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne Collegiate School 2019 four-star all-purpose back Eric Gray announced his decommitment from the Wolverines on Dec. 1.

His recruitment is now open.

“Thank you to Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and the entire Michigan staff and all the fans that have supported me,” Gray said. “The University of Michigan gave me an unbelievable opportunity to be a part of an excellent program. However, at this time, I feel it’s best for me and my family to re-open my recruitment.”

Gray originally pledged to Michigan over Ole Miss, Penn State and Tennessee on July 1. He officially visited Penn State on June 8 and Michigan on June 22 before making his decision.

“Penn State was very close,” he told WolverinesWire in early July. “The academic part set Michigan apart. You can’t go wrong with Michigan. The athletics and academics go hand-in-hand. It’s the best of the best.”

Michigan’s primary recruiter for Gray is running backs coach Jay Harbaugh, who has grown close to the four-star recruit.

“He’s my guy,” Gray said of Jay. “He was definitely key in picking a school. Jay is a down-to-earth guy and is regular. When he showed me my tape and what I could work on, I saw that we could do big things at the college level and beyond.

“I was like, ‘Man, he and I may have to do this in college.'”

The 5-foot-10, 193-pound running back is ranked No. 209 in the nation, No. 3 at his position and No. 8 in Tennessee, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Michigan is now down to 24 verbal commits in the 2019 class.
