Karan Higdon Guarantees Michigan Victory Ohio State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Back in 1986, then-Michigan quarterback Jim Harbaugh, after his Wolverines lost to Minnesota, guaranteed that the maize and blue would go down to Columbus and emerge victorious.

Harbaugh nowadays, as head coach of Michigan, goes the opposite direction. His press conferences have little-to-no substance the week before Ohio State. He goes out of his way to not provide bulletin board material for the Buckeyes.

But on Monday, that plan might have just turned on its head.

It may have been a coerced guarantee, but a guarantee it is nonetheless, when Michigan senior running back and team captain Karan Higdon was asked if he would follow in his head coach’s footsteps from his days as a player and ensure his team would get a victory five full days before the game kicks off.

Higdon hesitated, but he obliged.

“Yeah, I do,” Higdon said. “That’s how I feel. I believe firmly in my brothers, in this team and this coaching staff. And as a captain, I’ll take that stand. Why not?”

Michigan has not won a game against Ohio State since 2011. Before that, the last was 2003. The last time Michigan won a game in Columbus, it was 2000.

This iteration of The Game has the Wolverines favored for the first time since that 2011 match up.
