Massive 2019 OT Dawand Jones Recaps Michigan Visit, Plans to Commit in December

Dawand Jones stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs in at 360 pounds.

Jones visited Michigan on Nov. 17 for its game against Indiana and picked up an offer from coach Jim Harbaugh on the trip.

“Would you be interested in our school?” Harbaugh inquired.

“Yes, sir,” Jones quickly responded.

“Well, we would like to offer you a full scholarship to Michigan,” Harbaugh said.

Since Michigan is one of the best programs in the country, Jones said he was “super excited” and “very overwhelmed” because his dreams are starting to come true.

Jones, a three-star prospect, has offers to play for USC, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi State, Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, TCU and Tennessee-Martin.

But the Wolverines are different. Once Michigan offered, Jones immediately set a commitment date for sometime in December. He said Harbaugh’s offer was the reason for being able to finally set a timetable.

“I just need some extra time to myself to figure where is the fit for me,” Jones said. “I just want the best educational fit and coaching staff.”

Reflecting directly on his visit for Michigan’s 31-20 win over Indiana, the mammoth offensive lineman explained the family and love between the players was impressive.

“Those dudes will go to war for their brother, it doesn’t matter if it’s offense or defense – they stick together,” Jones said. “I just love that the coaching staff is great. Michigan has four offensive line coaches, so it’s not just one guy that can help me. It’s numerous, which I loved. The environment is something I’ve never seen. It’s beautiful.”

Playing on the highest stage his whole career, Jones believes he will be ready for his time with the Wolverines – only if he commits next month.

“It’s Michigan,” Jones said. “I’ve been competing on the highest stage my whole high school career. If I were to go to Michigan, it would be just like that.”

Jones is ranked No. 932 in the nation, No. 83 at offensive tackle and No. 12 in Indiana, according to 247Sports.
