Yanni Karlaftis Says Purdue Coaching Change Would Highly Alter 2019 4-star George Karlaftis' Recruitment

West Lafayette (Ind.) 2019 four-star defensive end George Karlaftis has been committed to Purdue since Oct. 20, 2017, but everything will change – if head coach Jeff Brohm accepts the same position at Louisville in the coming days.

At least, that’s what Karlaftis’ brother, 2021 linebacker Yanni Karlaftis, believes.

“The biggest reason he wants to go to Purdue is because of coach (Jeff) Brohm,” Yanni explained. “Of course that would change George’s future plans. If the Purdue coaches left, he would open his recruitment.”

Dan Dakich of ESPN Radio was the first to explain Brohm would accept a new position on Monday, Nov. 26. Louisville reporter Rick Bozich also chimed in with some interesting news pointing Brohm to the Cardinals coaching staff.

Yanni, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker, has offers from Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan and Purdue. He said his brother George is only focused on the Boilermakers right now.

“But if coaches left, he would look at a couple places,” Yanni said. “Michigan would be one of them. We are interested.”

George is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end offers from Purdue, Michigan, USC, Alabama, Clemson and 11 others. He’s ranked No. 78 in the nation, No. 5 at his position and No. 1 in Indiana, per 247Sports Composite.

The brothers are planning to visit Michigan again, but they are not sure when. George and Yanni are currently focused on their Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state semifinal game against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers on Nov. 16.

“I’ve just been focusing on the season and have not paid attention to recruitment,” Yanni said. “We are so close to a state championship.”
