'It Was a Dream Come True': Muskegon ATH Cameron Martinez Discusses Breathtaking Michigan Offer

Cameron Martinez is Muskegon High School’s quarterback, and he’s currently leading the Big Reds through the MHSAA Division 3 playoffs.

On Nov. 11, the 2020 three-star athlete picked up an offer from Michigan.

“I talked to coach (Jim) Harbaugh, and that’s when he offered me,” Martinez said the morning of his offer. “It was surprising, but it was a dream come true.

“It was just something I didn’t expect right now, but I’m thankful for it and it’s a blessing.”

Martinez now has offers to play for Michigan, Alabama A&M, Boston College, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Syracuse, Toledo and Western Michigan.

“I’m very interested (in Michigan),” he said. “Them being close to home is helpful, and I love how the program is and how successful Harbaugh has been.”

Even though he currently plays quarterback for Muskegon, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh offered him as a slot wide receiver on offense and safety on defense. Martinez and Harbaugh talked about the possibility of playing both ways.

“They do a long of things for people to make plays, and I think I could fit well in that offense,” Martinez said. “They use slots well.”

If the 5-foot-11, 175-pound athlete ends up in Ann Arbor, Martinez said he’s willing to do whatever the Wolverines need.

“There are some things I like about defense and some about offense,” Martinez added. “It’s hard to say right now, so it’s whatever the team feels like is the best fit. I do like quarterback a lot, but it doesn’t matter to me at the end of the day.”

Martinez said he will visit Michigan in December, but he has not set a specific date.

“We talked a little about it, but we’ll have more details after the season,” he added.

According to 247Sports Composite, Martinez is ranked No. 519 in the nation, No. 39 at his position and No. 19 in Michigan.
