Harbaugh Updates Player Injuries Post-Rutgers

Michigan took care of business in New Jersey, taking down Rutgers on Saturday, 42-7, but several players either didn’t play or got hurt in the process.

After the game, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh updated the status of those who both did not play and those who left the game early.

Josh Metellus dressed for the game and warmed up, but Harbaugh said that in the final practice of the week in preparation for Rutgers, Metellus sustained a minor injury.

It sounds like it’s nothing serious, and that if Metellus was needed for the game, he was available.

“He had done something to himself on Thursday,” Harbaugh said. “It was a soft-tissue deal. He’s just still working through that. He really wanted to play. We’re gonna see how he loosened up before the game and if he did. We were going with Brad Hawkins as the starter and Josh more in an emergency role.”

Also having not played was defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon, who missed quite a bit of time after having had early-season knee surgery. He returned in recent weeks, but he didn’t seem to travel to Piscataway with the rest of the team.

Harbaugh said after the Rutgers game that Solomon’s absence was due to an unrelated illness that he had come down with in the days prior.

“Aubrey Solomon didn’t play,” Harbaugh said. “He got sick the last two or three days before we left for the game.”

Now, there were two players who did play but left the game on Saturday: cornerback Lavert Hill and defensive end Kwity Paye.

Similar to this time last year, Hill sustained a head injury and is now in concussion protocol. A year ago, Hill missed the penultimate regular season game at Wisconsin as a result.

“Lavert — he’s being evaluated for a concussion,” Harbaugh said. “Didn’t play him in the second half. Took him out before halftime.”

Paye, who left the game with an apparent arm injury, has a status that seems less clear.

Harbaugh says that the team isn’t aware as of yet as of his status.

“Not exactly sure what that is right now,” Harbaugh said. “Haven’t been informed.”

The Wolverines will play their final home game of the season this upcoming Saturday against Indiana before finishing out against Ohio State, with a chance to play Northwestern for the Big Ten Championship.
