Shea Patterson Helps Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins Prepare For Michigan State

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. That is what Michigan football starting quarterback Shea Patterson is kinda doing with his friend and starting quarterback at Ohio State, Dwayne Haskins.

Michigan plays Rutgers this week, but Ohio State plays Michigan State, a huge rival for the Wolverines and Haskins figured Patterson would be a good person to get tips from about the Spartans as he does his best to get ready for MSU.

“I watched like five games already since Sunday for Michigan State,” Haskins said Tuesday. “I talked to Shea Patterson, he played them earlier in the year, and just trying to figure out what they do defensively.”

That isn’t something you see every day. A Michigan quarterback helping out an Ohio State quarterback, but the two have a history together and are friends, so it makes sense.

“I’ve known Shea since I was in eighth grade,” Haskins said. “We played in an all-star game together, Elite 11, all that type of stuff. So I just hit him up asking how they play defensively. He just gave me some tips for going into this week.”

Patterson gave Haskins some help and Haskins didn’t go too much into it as he probably doesn’t want to let Michigan State know what he knows.

“Just to play really hard,” Haskins said. “They’re going to bring a lot of different stuff. Watch their film. A lot of empty stuff. They brought six-man pressure to five-man protection. So we’re just going to figure out what we need to do as far as the game plan goes and I’m going to get myself together for different types of pressure and looks I get this week.”

Don’t worry though everyone, this rivalry will come between these two friends eventually when they play in two weeks and don’t expect them to be helping each other out that week.

“Yeah, I’m not going to talk to him that week,” Haskins said.Michigan and Ohio State could be battling for a Big Ten Championship appearance and possibly a College Football Playoff birth so all bets are off that week, even friendships.
