College Football Playoff Rankings Predictions: Michigan Football Joins The Fun

Tonight, the second edition of the College Football Playoff rankings will be released and with No. 3 LSU getting shutout to No. 1 Alabama, Michigan should easily make the jump from five to four as they also had their way with Penn State last week and played a complete game.

You never know what could happen when the rankings are revealed tonight and with that, I give you my College Football Playoff rankings predictions.

1. Alabama

No-brainer here as Alabama shutout a top three team in LSU at their own stadium. Alabama is the most complete team in the country and won’t possibly lose until the CFP starts, their next victim is Mississippi State.

2. Clemson

Another no-brainer as Clemson dominated Louisville last week and won’t jump Alabama unless the Tide lose and that isn’t happening anytime soon. Clemson has one tough matchup left this regular season as they play Boston College this week.

3. Notre Dame

Three straight easy decisions as Notre Dame is moving up here after the LSU loss and while Notre Dame had trouble with Northwestern, they beat Michigan this season and won’t be jumping up unless Clemson or Alabama lose and won’t be moving down until they lose or Michigan wins the Big Ten. Florida State is up next for Notre Dame and that isn’t even a challenge.

4. Michigan

Joining in on the playoff talk are now the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan is coming off a huge win over Penn State and looks like a threat to Clemson and Alabama, and a rematch against Notre Dame would be a great addition to the revenge tour they have going on. They control their destiny in the end and winning out, puts them at number four or three in the end. Rutgers is the opponent this week and that should be a bloodbath.

5. Georgia

Georgia is close to making it into the CFP, but that late loss to LSU hurts them and with LSU just losing, it makes it look even worse. Georgia needs to win the conference title or hope for some upsets if they want to see themselves in the top four. A win over Kentucky was impressive, but Michigan has the better loss between both teams. Georgia plays Auburn this week in what should be another win.

6. Oklahoma

A close win against Texas Tech isn’t a good look for Oklahoma, but luckily other teams around them had close wins against unranked opponents. Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State this week in what could be another scare. A Big 12 championship could put them in the discussion but so far they are on the outside looking in.

7. Washington State

Another top 10 team with a close win against an unranked team, Washington State still has challenges left in front of them and the first in Colorado. The Cougars are longshots to make the final four, but crazier things have happened.

8. LSU

A shutout loss to the number one team at home isn’t good, but it was Alabama in the end. LSU still has an impressive win over Georiga, who is inching away from a playoff spot and their name can stay in the top 10, but unless Alabama loses two more games, which they won’t, LSU is done in the playoff race.

9. Ohio State

The final top 10 team to struggle against an unranked opponent, Ohio State seems to have some issues. The defense isn’t good without defensive end Nick Bosa, head coach Urban Meyer is dealing with health issues and the offense is inconsistent. Michigan State is a tough opponent for them this week and a loss here ruins their slim chances at being in the final four.

10. UCF

The final undefeated team that isn’t in the top four is UCF and rightfully so. Their schedule is soft and opponents aren’t valuable enough to put ahead of some of these other teams. Beating Cincinnati and USF, along with winning the AAC might be enough to put them in the top six, but unless madness happens to six teams ahead of them in these final four weeks, UCF isn’t going to make the playoffs, despite having back to back undefeated seasons.

11. West Virginia

12. Kentucky

13. Mississippi State

14. Syracuse

15. NC State

16. Boston College

17. Fresno State

18. Florida

19. Texas

20. Utah State

21. Iowa State

22. Michigan State

23. Cincinnati

24. Utah

25. Washington
