Hinton Spent Michigan Visit Bonding With Current Players, Actively Recruiting

2019 Norcross (GA) Greater Atlanta Christian five-star strong-side defensive end has been the pinnacle of this Michigan class for more than a year now, and he’s long made his love for Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan known.

Despite being in the heart of SEC country, Hinton has rebuffed advances from the powers-that-be in favor of donning a winged helmet at the next level. He’s made several trips to Ann Arbor in recent years, and has even made it a point to see the Wolverines play at other locales, including at AT&T Stadium in Arlington (TX) last season, when Michigan took on Florida in the Advocare Classic. He also was on campus this past summer as part of Michigan’s big recruiting weekend, which featured visitors such as now-commits such as Daxton Hill, Mazi Smith and Mike Sainristil.

So on Saturday, when Hinton made it back to campus to check out Michigan’s big 42-7 win over Penn State, it was a comforting, welcome trip.

He may have still been active in trying to get top stars to join the class, but this trip was more about Hinton getting to spend time with those he will line up next to in less than a year.

“Every time I come up here I always have a great time,” Hinton said. “The best part about the trip would have to be hanging out with my future teammates and watching us dominate — especially on defense last night!”

Of course, Michigan’s most outspoken recruiter in the 2019 class remained active on Saturday, especially with so many top targets in attendance.

The cornerstone of which was 2019 Charlotte (NC) Harding University five-star athlete Quavaris Crouch, who also had made that aforementioned summer visit along with Hinton. He, along with 2019 Savannah (GA) Islands four-star Florida State LB commit Kalen Deloach were getting the pitch from Hinton on just how special it would be to have them wearing maize and blue next year.

“I was talking to (five-star ATH Quavaris) Crouch and (four-star LB) Kalen (Deloach) yesterday,” Hinton said. “Those are two great football players and good people to be around and that’s what the class of 2019 is full of. I think they both enjoyed their time this weekend!”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Michigan currently has the ninth-ranked class in 2019 with 24 commitments, but are looking to add multiple highly-ranked targets to the class — such as Crouch, Deloach, five-star DE Zach Harrison, and others.

Hinton is now the third-longest tenured commitment in the class, and with the possibility of adding more, he sees the potential of something special happening in Ann Arbor.

“In my eyes this class has the potential to be a Top 5 class,” Hinton said. “We have some straight dudes already and a couple of elite and special talents that are still considering us heavy. So I think if we get a couple of those guys, then this will be a class for the ages.”

But, of course, it isn’t all about who will join Hinton next year.

The second-best SDE in the 2019 class per 247Sports wants to do everything he can to get acclimated to the program as quickly as he can. So with every minute he spends in Ann Arbor, Hinton is getting closer to his future teammates, and learning how to prepare for his future.

In doing so, he’s getting an enhanced mentorship from those who have come before him and that are currently making their presence known on the field. So, experiences like the one he just had this Saturday are invaluable.

“I was hanging out with a plethora of players, but I guess I’d say the one I have the best connection with is Carlo Kemp,” Hinton said. “Him, along with guys like Aubrey (Solomon), are some of the dudes that have already been mentoring me and helping me out before I even get to campus. But they have just been telling me their experiences as a athlete and student on campus, and the opportunities that I’ll have that excite me so much!”
