Michigan Flips Former Virginia Tech Commit Mike Sainristil

You knew this was going to happen shortly after he decommitted from Virginia Tech on Monday last week.

Rated by the 247Sports Composite as a three-star, the 716th-best player in the country, the 62nd-ranked cornerback and No. 2 player in the state of Massachusetts, cornerback Mike Sainristil ended his process relatively early, having pledged to the Hokies in February — just a few weeks after Michigan offered him in late-January.

Though he flew somewhat under the radar, Sainristil was a part of Michigan’s big weekend slate of visitors back in late-June, along with Zach Harrison, Lewis Cine, and eventual commits Mazi Smith and DJ Turner.

Sainristil then made it back to campus on July 28, for the famed BBQ at the Big House, and after making a return visit to campus that opportunity presented by the maize and blue ended up sticking with Sainristil.

He finally pledged to the Wolverines on Tuesday.

“It was a great official visit,” Sainristil told WolverinesWire back in June. “(My) mom and dad loved it, I loved it. They treated us well, we felt like we were at home.”

At 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, Sainristil has the type of frame consistent with many of the defensive backs that Michigan has recruited under head coach Jim Harbaugh, defensive coordinator Don Brown and cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich.

Before he made his pledge to Michigan official, Sainristil had already told Coach Harbaugh he was in — all the way back during the summer months — and even started turning his attention to other recruits — such as former Everett (MA) teammate Lewis Cine, a four-star who recently transferred to finish high school in Texas, but ultimately committed to Georgia.

Sainristil is Michigan’s 24th commitment of the 2019 class, and he chose the Wolverines over Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Boston College.
