Nick Eubanks Emerging As Another Weapon For Shea Patterson

The tight end position at Michigan has always been an interesting one and one that certainly gets used a lot. Former Michigan Wolverines like Devin Funchess and Jake Butt made the position more valuable with their play and since then there have been some good players at the position.

One player that doesn’t get talked about much is Nick Eubanks. Eubanks has only appeared in five games in the two years he has been at Michigan, and four of them have been this year and Eubanks hasn’t blown his opportunities. Eubanks so far this season has five catches for 108 yards.

Eubanks is emerging among the other tight ends, Zach Gentry and Sean Mckeon, and his position coach Sherrone Moore discussed what Eubanks has been improving on this season.

“The crazy thing is, it’s probably his run blocking,” Moore said. “He’s done an outstanding job of developing his knowledge of the run game, but he’s always had the natural athletic ability to do those things and he’s starting to show more and more and he’s just going to keep doing it because he keeps involving himself and really investing in the whole playbook and he’s done an outstanding job at that. Every day he just gets better and better, I told him that yesterday, so I’m excited to see where it goes.

Eubanks isn’t the focal point of opposing defenses as they have to worry about the wide receivers, and running backs as well and when it comes to the tight end spot, Gentry and McKeon are the main two that teams prepare for, so that gives Eubanks a chance to sneak by and make big plays.

“When you have three guys, they gotta deal with three different guys that can make plays in the passing game and the run game, so sometimes he gets lost and all of a sudden he’s open or he makes a big play,” Moore said. “He’s taking advantage of the opportunities, the balls going his way he’s going up and getting it and making big plays out of it.”

Eubanks might need to make a big play or two this week as the Michigan Wolverines prepare to play No. 14 Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3:45 p.m. EST.
