It's All About Having Fun For Bryan Mone

Football is a game. Some people take games seriously, others don’t. Some want to win, some just want to have fun. Defensive tackle Bryan Mone likes to have fun but loves winning too.

Mone is having his best season so far in his five years at Michigan, and while his numbers aren’t earth-shattering, he is still doing his job by filling gaps and helping the defense out. He has career-high total tackles with 11 so far, and two tackles for loss, another career high, and one sack.

Injuries and playing time were why Mone hasn’t seen much action in his five years at Michigan. His season where he saw the most playing time was in 2016 where he played in seven games, this year he has played in six and should be able to hit the double-digit mark by the end of the season. Mone dove into how this year has been his best year so far in his career.

“Just trying to stay focused,” Mone said. “Just having fun. Playing for the team, coaches, that’s what it’s all been about this year. Injuries is just adversity you have to deal with. Bouncing back… I feel like I’m having fun more this year. Not thinking as much while playing, that was my biggest problem (in the past), just overthinking things now I’m just having fun.”

With Mone focused so much on having fun, you had to wonder at some point, was playing football not fun before?

“Yea, it sucked but it is what it is,” Mone said. “That’s the past, just living in the now.”

Mone kept emphasizing the word fun enough that it became somewhat of a gag for everyone around him.

“I feel like I did (have his best game against Michigan State), having fun playing against them,” Mone said smiling.

Mone said this year is all about having fun. He didn’t hold back when it came about winning though and coach Don Brown.

“Yeah winning’s fun,” Mone said happily. “It’s hella fun (playing for Brown), love coach Brown.”

Mone and the Michigan football team should have some fun this week as they host No. 14 Penn State in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3:45 p.m. EST in a huge Big Ten East battle. The conference race is heating up and with the playoff rankings getting released yesterday, that goal is now emphasized even more now.
