Michigan Football Week 9 Rooting Guide

Michigan has the week off this week as they are sitting at the number 5 spot in the final meaningful AP poll before the College Football Playoff rankings come out on Tuesday and trump what the AP has to say. There are a few games to keep watch for that could help Michigan during this bye week.

Game 1: No. 14 Washington State vs. No. 24 Stanford

Washington State has a tough schedule ahead of them. They play Stanford, Colorado, and Washington. So that gives them plenty of time to trip up, but it’s better to get their second loss out of the way now.

Stanford only has Washington left as a tough team on their schedule and I don’t think Stanford is good enough to beat Washington in the end, and Washington will probably be the PAC-12 champion.

Game 2: No. 9 Florida vs. No. 7 Georgia

This one is tricky as the winner of this game will be most likely be tied with Kentucky for first place of the SEC East. The thing is, this might be a mess if Georgia loses. If Georgia loses this week to Florida, then beats Kentucky then we have a three-way tie where each team has beaten one another and lost to the other.

Florida doesn’t have a tough game left this season, while Georgia only has Kentucky left. In the end, let’s make the SEC a mess here because a clear-cut winner of the SEC East is better than a questionable winner.

Game 3: No. 18 Iowa vs. No. 17 Penn State

Michigan’s opponent next week Penn State hosts another big-time opponent in Iowa. Iowa is a scary team out of the Big Ten West and their only loss was to Wisconsin. Iowa still has to play Purdue and Northwestern, so a possible slip up is not out of the question. Penn State is their last true test and another loss could possibly knock them out of the divisional race.

Michigan also needs Penn State to look good before their matchup next week and Penn State coming in possibly unranked at 5-3 isn’t as good as of a win compared to a 6-2 top 15 opponent. Also, them beating Iowa and if Michigan beats Penn State, they are technically better than Iowa as well and helps Michigan’s resume.
