Harbaugh Suggests Brian Lewerke Has Torn Labrum

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Jim Harbaugh doesn’t talk about player injuries, usually. But on Monday, he made something of an exception.

Except — it wasn’t a Michigan player he spoke about.

Perhaps adding insult to literal injury, at his Monday press conference, Harbaugh was speaking about how special Michigan’s defense was against MSU on Saturday, and then proffered that perhaps Michigan State wasn’t as strong at signal caller as it usually is.

“Not to take anything away from our defense, because they played a magnificent game, but Michigan State had some injuries,” Harbaugh said. “And Brian Lewerke, who I really think is a heckuva good quarterback, in my eye, with no evidence, any MRIs or anything, I don’t think his shoulder’s right. He’s throwing the ball like somebody’s got a torn labrum. He just doesn’t have the pop on it. So that was another factor in the game.”

Lewerke did admit after the game that he was dealing with injury.

In the end, he completed 5 of 25 passes, a 20% clip, and the lowest completion percentage by a Big Ten QB in 20 years. The 94 total yards amassed by the Spartans on Saturday is also the lowest number accumulated in this rivalry going back to the 1940s.
