'They Are Hard to Read': Rising 2020 OT Grant Toutant Unsure of Michigan's Desire for Him

Grant Toutant recently added offers from Wisconsin and Penn State.

But Michigan? Not so fast.

The Wolverines are a hard team to read, the Warren (Mich.) De La Salle 2020 three-star offensive tackle said.

“I’m still interested in Michigan,” Toutant explained. “I’m just not sure how much they are interested in me.”

Toutant has visited Michigan twice this season. He’s seen coach Jim Harbaugh’s group dismantle Western Michigan on Sept. 8 and top No. 15 ranked Wisconsin on Oct. 13.

Despite visiting twice, the coaching staff has never even mentioned the chance of an offer, and Toutant is taking notice.

Putting Toutant’s confusion aside, he was able to speak to offensive line coach Ed Warinner and graduate assistant Patrick Kugler, who on the offensive line for the Wolverines from 2013-2017.

Then, Kugler congratulated Toutant on an offer that wasn’t even from Michigan.

“Coach Kugler said congrats on the offer,” Toutant said. “I’m not sure if he was referring to the Wisconsin one that literally just happened before I got there or the Toledo one from the week before.”

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive tackle has offers to Indiana, State, Penn State, Toledo and Wisconsin.

Toutant is ranked No. 307 in the nation, No. 40 at offensive tackle and No. 9 in Michigan, according to 247Sports Composite.
