Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has been something of a pop culture and media fixation dating back to his days with the San Francisco 49ers. And sometimes that means mentions from odd places.
When Harbaugh was mentioned two years ago on The Simpsons, that made more sense than the mention he got Tuesday morning.
Former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is something of a controversial figure internationally, but he seems to have something of an appreciation for American sports. On Tuesday, he tweeted some thoughts on former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, who played for Harbaugh, and his wonder that he isn’t currently on a roster.
That got the attention of a Michigan fan who tweeted at him. Ahmadinejad replied with his thoughts on the Wolverines and Michigan’s program under Harbaugh.
Not really sure what kind of endorsement that is, but it’s certainly not one that Harbaugh & Co. probably expected to get during Michigan State week.
