Updates: Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh Press Conference (10/15)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan may be peaking at the right time, decimating Wisconsin, 38-13, and rising to No. 6 in the AP Top 25.

Now the Wolverines have a bigger test, traveling to No. 24 Michigan State, Michigan’s in-state rival.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is set to meet with the media on Monday at 12PM to discuss the Wolverines win over Wisconsin on Saturday and the impending matchup against the Spartans.

Follow along with our live-blog below:

  • Harbaugh says that the OL improvement starts with individual players. Says Bushell-Beatty had his best game as a Wolverine. “The way he sustained his blocks, whether it be front side or backside…” Also says Michael Onwenu had “a heckuva ball game.” Said all 5 linemen graded out positive.
  • Harbaugh says Metellus was the defensive player of the game. Says he also had his best game.
  • Harbaugh says he’s “always on alert in terms of trick plays — that’s the special focus to be on alert for.”
  • On MSU’s run D: “Very good run defense. They’re very stout up front. They’ve got some real hard playing guys. Their linebackers are some of the best in the league. Very sound system, they do a great job of adjusting. Very well coached. They have a lot of variation to their scheme. Don’t see people really ever running open in the passing game. When there are holes open in the run game, they close quickly, get adjusted to.”
  • Harbaugh says his team is “enthusiastic every day. Excited to get back on the field of practice.”
  • Extra emotion in a game like this? “Yes, in-state rival, Big Ten opponent. Always has and always will be.”
  • Harbaugh says they’re always striving and chasing to be as good as can be.
  • Harbaugh says Grant Newsome is “knocking both on the park,” academically and coaching-wise.
  • Harbaugh won’t elaborate on the big time nature of this game. “Great opportunity.” That’s it? “Yeah.”
  • Offense (I believe, missed the question): “Better each day. Real good in terms of constant, continuous improvement. Very intense about the way they practice and prepare.”
  • On Shea: “Better each week. He finds another something to be good at the next week.” Praises his running this week. Says his ball-security has been excellent. “Had one that he forced this last week, but that’s the only one I can remember that he’s had in the last several games, anyway.”
  • On MSU approach: “The way it always has been, the way it always will be.”
  • On Nick Eubanks: “He’s really progressed in all areas. His blocking, his catching, his route-running. And really his understanding of the scheme.” Says he was always inquisitive, and now he’s starting to teach. Says he even changed a blocking scheme.
  • On Rashan’s injury, doesn’t know if he’ll be back this week. Harbaugh now says, “I’m not going to talk about any injuries.”
  • “Not talking about any information game-plan specific.”
  • On Aubrey Solomon: “It was good. Thought he did an excellent job.” Says he did a good job transitioning from practice to the game.
  • “I think we could all use a break from the cliches have been plowed so thoroughly from both sides.”
  • Tarik Black: “Not talking about injury statuses.”
  • Joe Milton: “Thought there were a couple plays he could execute.”
  • Harbaugh says David Long “is a top-notch player in the conference.” Much more than that, but I asked the question, so didn’t type it.

That’s it for Harbaugh.
