Postgame Updates: Jim Harbaugh after 42-21 win over Maryland

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan dominated Maryland, 42-21, on Saturday, in a game that saw the Wolverines continue to keep yards at a premium, while the offense start to open up the passing game.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is meeting with the media at Crisler Center after the big Week Six win to discuss what he saw in the victory.

Follow along with our live-blog below:

  • On Shea’s mobility: “You said it: he does. Throws it well from the pocket and when he has to escape, he has a real knack, good peripheral vision — he’s real good outside of the pocket too. It’s a real weapon. He’s really growing and playing better and better every week. It was players making plays this week, starting with Shea.”
  • “I thought Karan, again — Devin Bush had a great game. Brandon Watson made plays.” Also mentions Gentry, others.
  • On DPJ’s touchdown: “The one where he did the whirlybird? I love that! It was just a great instinctive play by Shea,” Says DPJ is really coming on. “The ball finds energy, it seeks him.”
  • Adds: “How about my guy Ronnie Bell, making the tough catch up the middle. It takes guys years, sometimes decades” to catch a ball over the middle “and finish it in the endzone.”
  • Harbaugh says he’s really happy with the pass protection. Praises Ed Warinner, starts by praising Jon Runyan Jr.
  • On the Jared Wangler TD: “That was big to get that touchdown back — his role is expanding a lot because of Ben Mason. And Ben Mason’s role is expanding.” He likes having both Wangler and Mason in the backfield together.
  • On the first 3 quarter defense: “It really was an epic defensive performance. We got a little thin toward the end of the game. Good job, great performance. This team has a very potent running game, you’ve seen what they did to Texas. A lot of misdirection, a lot of distraction — a lot of long runs and we didn’t give those up today.”
  • Harbaugh says Tru Wilson “is a trusted agent now.”
  • Gentry: “The way he’s grown most is probably putting on 40 pounds of muscle. He’s grown as a blocker. He’s grown as a pass catcher.” Can go catch the ball up in the air, make contested catches. “Guys draped on him, and those are tough catches to make.”
  • Harbaugh: “Haven’t seen all the fullbacks, but we love our fullbacks.”
  • On Higdon and his 2,000 yards and the season: “He’s just getting the extra yards. He’s broken some big runs in his career and he has this year. Just the strength I think he’s developed in this offseason and the determination that he has to help our team shows up in those carries where it looks like it will be a -1 or no gain and he turns it into a 4 yard gain.”
  • On DL health: “Michael, we’ll see. Still evaluating what he has. Carlo, same. Still evaluating. Rashan, I decided not to play him this week. He’s most likely — we’ll see where he’s at when the week goes on. It’s not a long term thing. Aubrey? We’ll see. He had a good week last week.”
  • Chris Evans “practiced two days this week, ultimately” decided not to play him.
  • Rashan: “He’s had an AC, a little bit of an AC — he’s been playing through. But, thought it wise to not play him this week.”
  • Harbaugh says Maryland’s targeting penalty hurt Michigan, because offsetting penalties.

That’s it for Harbaugh.
