What Maryland is Saying About This Week's Matchup

Coming off the bye week, Maryland is ready to jump back into the swing of things and play football. This week they take on the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor in what could be a very sloppy, wet, and close game between the two Big Ten teams.

Head coach DJ Durkin is on administrative leave still so Harbaugh will go up against the interim head coach and offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Canada had some nice things to say about the Wolverines defense when watching them on film this week.

“Chase, he plays so hard,” Canada said at the news conference. “And their whole defense does. …[Devin] Bush is another guy that plays real hard. A traditional Michigan linebacker that runs to the football. They run to the football, they do a great job getting their hands up and knock a lot of balls down.”

He then shifted focus from the players to the defensive coordinator Don Brown.

“There‘s a reason they’re one of the top defenses in the country,” Canada said. “They have great players and they play really hard and they have, in my opinion, one of the best coordinators around [in former Maryland defensive coordinator Don Brown], and they have a great scheme. It’s a pretty good combination for playing great defense.”

Canada had some things to also say about Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and what it meant to go into The Big House and coach against him.

“I’m going as the offensive coordinator, not the head coach,” Canada said. “I think they have a tremendous staff, a lot of those guys I’ve known from afar, know some of them a little bit better through some places in our careers. Coach Harbaugh speaks for himself, all the places he’s been, the great player he was and again on defense I think what they do on defense is as good as anybody in the country, so it’s a tremendous challenge that way.”

Maryland will travel to Ann Arbor on Saturday, Oct. 6 to play the Wolverines at noon in what will be an interesting game for both teams.
