Shea Patterson and Chase Winovich Bonding Over Fortnite and Football

Probably the most popular video game out there right now is Fortnite. You and 99 others drop onto his island and you try and become the last one standing by killing the other 99 players. You start off with nothing in your inventory, but you then travel around the island grabbing health supplies, guns, ammo and more to prepare for battle. You can also build buildings, or walls to stop the bullets from hitting you. Everyone has been playing it, even the Michigan football players, especially Chase Winovich and Shea Patterson.

The two of them room together and seemed to have bonded by playing Fortnite with each other, something that millions across the world are doing, but also they joke around and throw a little smack talk to each other.

“First of all I need to address, there’s a lot of rumors about my inability to play Fortnite,” Winovich said laughing.

Patterson told WXYZ’s Brad Galli that Winovich plays a lot but he wasn’t the best on the team. Winovich took offense to that.

“He said I play the most?” Winovich said. “He definitely plays more Fortnite than I do, like not even close.” as Winovich is smiling and laughing. “I dabble in the game. When it comes to Fortnite I am more of the quarterback by the way. He is more of a defensive end I’d say, he just hides in the back and I go out and kill everyone. So yea we can both go and talk some smack.”

Living with a roommate can always be interesting, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst, but Winovich and Patterson seem to be enjoying each other’s company and helping each other out.

“Living with Shea is great,” Winovich said. “He just cracks me up. Just the way he operates. He’s not malicious in anything that he does. I had Noodles & Co. the other night and he (Shea) had gone out there, there was garlic bread there, so he was eating the garlic bread and put it back in the bag and so I walk out I’m like ‘wow they didn’t give me any garlic bread’ and then I was like ‘it had to be Shea’ because he was the only one there. He cracks me up.”

While they have their jokes and smack talk, they do focus on football as well and just being good friends in general.

“He’s a great friend and a great teammate,” Winovich said. “If he’s not on Fortnite, he’s looking over film, and we’re always talking about what their offense or defense looks like. We’re always focused on the task at hand if we’re not taking a little bit of relaxation time on the Xbox.”
