What Nebraska is Saying About This Week's Matchup

Michigan hosts Nebraska in the first Big Ten game of the season for both teams as Michigan looks to improve to 3-1, while Nebraska is looking for their first win of the season after starting 0-2 for the first time since 1957.

Nebraska running back coach Ryan Held is ready for a battle on Saturday, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

“At the end of the day this is ‘Rocky IV,’” Held said following Wednesday’s practice. “I mean, nobody thinks we can win this game. National people don’t think we can win this game, so we got to be able to rally, come together as a group, go on the road, get on that airplane like Rocky Balboa did and freakin’ beat Ivan Drago. That’s what we got to be able to do. That’s kind of where we’re at, and we’re going to keep fighting to get this deal done.”

A focal point of talking about Michigan is their defense and how they have so many different things to worry about, starting with the defensive line as Nebraska offensive line coach Greg Austin told the Lincoln Journal Star.

“The tackles have a challenge, but the center and guards have a challenge as well. Everybody has a challenge. Certainly those guys are good players. They stick out on film. Our tackles have been working on those guys, and their set lines with their eyes and their hand placement, etc.”

Devin Bush got some praise from the Nebraska offensive coordinator Troy Walters according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Last week he got a compliment from the SMU head coach.
“He’s got everything. Fast. Physical. Explosive. Smart. He knows exactly, based on formations, what you’re going to run. He plays with relentless effort.”

When talking about the secondary, Walters talked about how physical they play and how much it is important that the receivers try and not allow anybody put a hand on them this week.

“I told them this week, ‘If anybody puts their hands on you, knock it off,'” Walters said. “Tell your girlfriend, ‘Don’t take it personal.’ That’s just the mindset we’re in this week.

“It’s that type of game. It’s a mentality where they’re gonna be physical, they’re going to try to disrupt the timing of the quarterback, they’re going to try to get their hands on us. We’ve gotta be physical, we’ve got to have that physical mindset that nothing’s going to be easy. You’re not going to get 5, 6, 7 yards of separation against these guys. Everything’s going to be contested. And you have to have that mentality going in.”

Nebraska is also confident in whoever will start at quarterback for them, whether that is Adrain Martinez or Andrew Bunch.
“We feel good if it’s Adrian, it’s Adrian; if it’s Andrew, it’s Andrew. I feel like we can go up to Michigan and win with either of those two guys,” Walters said.
We will have to see who will start at quarterback for Nebraska on Saturday at noon in Ann Arbor as Michigan will be prepared for both quarterbacks and will be looking to start the Big Ten season 1-0.
