Updates: Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh Press Conference (9/17)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan is now 2-1 after dismantling SMU, 45-20 on Saturday.

Now, the Wolverines will shift focus to Nebraska, opening up Big Ten conference play, with the Huskers traveling to Ann Arbor this week.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is set to meet with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference. WolverinesWire’s Isaiah Hole is live at Schembechler Hall and will share updates below.

The presser is set to begin at 12PM ET.

Follow along with our live-blog below:

  • On Higdon and Evans: “Chris is working with something new. Karan Higdon is working through something. No real status to give. When they come in today, we’ll see where they’re at. Day-by-day.”
  • Harbaugh says he’s seen consistency like Patterson has had early. “Making accurate throws, on time, getting good protection for the most part. Receivers across the board have been catching the football, getting separation, getting open, finishing plays. It’s been a real positive.”
  • On a Big Ten Championship: “Very motivated. Daily, weekly, yearly.”
  • Putting Onwenu on offense rather than defense: “We played him at both. We tried him out at both. Felt like his best position, for the long term in his career would be along the offensive line.”
  • Harbaugh says they’re preparing for both Nebraska QBs. “Seeing a real physical team. A lot of team speed, athleticism.” Says they’ve installed a lot of looks on offense already.
  • Behind Tru Wilson at RB: “O’Maury Samuels after Tru — who really played well in this game.” Mentioned he did well in pass pro. “Christian Turner will be working in there as well. He’s done a fine job. Hassan Haskins, the next group.”
  • Harbaugh says Haskins has worked with Linebackers as well. “He’s done both. It’s yet to be determined what his best position is…right now, he’s higher on the depth chart on offense…he’s a talented player. Could show up in both places going forward, including special teams.”
  • Says Gentry is “really blocking well. Really becoming a complete player.”
  • Aubrey Solomon “is still day-to-day” with his rehab.
  • On Cesar Ruiz at center: “Developing well as a center. Personality-wise, he’s a real well-liked player…players really gravitate to him. Coaches like him. He’s got a lot of energy. Good to be around.”
  • Harbaugh says he has a lot of mutual friends with Scott Frost. “Really impressed with what he’s done as a coach” mentioning Oregon and UCF.
  • Harbaugh says Jacob “Buck” West tore his ACL and will need surgery. Projecting he’ll be back by spring ball.
  • Harbaugh says Tru Wilson’s hold was a hold. “Oh, he held him. For sure!”
  • Harbaugh says there’s “still some timing issues” with the run blocking. “Not where we want it to be yet. Chasing perfection. Improved, yes in the standard of the way you measure it.”
  • Harbaugh on penalties: “Not really keeping score on them.” Says they’re seeking clarification for several. “Some things we’ve got to clean up. The false start, the hold, special teams penalties, hitting guys out of bounds. Gotta know where the white is. There was others. Waiting for clarification on the targeting.” Says that he still doesn’t agree with it.
  • Harbaugh says Karan Higdon “didn’t feel like he could” play last week.
  • Harbaugh says “everybody’s doing a good job” on his new staff through three games.
  • On Josh Ross: “He’s improving. He got a penalty in the game — that’s another one we’re getting clarification on.”
  • Says Devin Bush “is playing at a super high level. Devin Gil also turned in a solid game.”
  • Harbaugh said Brandon Watson was the defensive player of the game last week. “He had tackles last week, he had PBUs, three of them.”
  • On Quinn Nordin: “Working on the process — great to see that unit, and also the protection come through when we needed it.” Says the 45 yard field goal made it a three score game.

That’s it for Harbaugh.
