Greg Mattison's Scouting Report on Shea Patterson

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan defensive line coach Greg Mattison has a different view on Wolverines starting quarterback Shea Patterson.

It’s his unit’s job to stop him in fall training camp, and the versatile signal caller — who can hurt you with his legs as much as his arm — poses a different kind of challenge to the quarterbacks who have been on the roster the past few years.

So, how does Mattison break down Patterson’s game? As only he can from a defensive line perspective.

“If the head football coach would let us hit him as hard as we could every time, we would try to do that,” Mattison said. “That’s what my scouting report would be. Now, you may not be able to catch him, but no, that’s what I would do. But, we aren’t allowed to touch him, so I’m not going to talk anymore about that.”

On Saturday, it will be up to Notre Dame to find their answer for Michigan’s new quarterback, as the Wolverines open up the season in South Bend with a 7:30PM kickoff.
