Update on Michigan Freshman Ryan Hayes

Michigan freshman Ryan Hayes is listed as a tight end on the 2018 fall roster.

Throughout almost two weeks of fall camp, he has been working out on the offensive line, specifically at offensive tackle.

“He’s been with the OLine,” Michigan tight end Zach Gentry confirmed.

From Traverse City (Mich.) West, Hayes was a four-star prospect ranked No. 335 in the nation, No. 23 at offensive tackle and No. 5 in Michigan in the 2018 class. He continuously made it clear to reporters that he’d be a tight end in Ann Arbor.

“They want me to come in as a tight end,” Hayes stated during his senior year.

Sure enough, coach Jim Harbaugh and his group brought Hayes in as a tight end, but the 6-foot-7, 271 pounder has yet to receive an opportunity with the tight end group.

Only time will tell if Hayes ever gets a real shot at tight end or if his opportunity has already vanished.
