Three of the four athletes from Michigan listed on ESPN’s preseason list of top 50 college football players take the field for the Wolverines on the defensive side of the ball.
The list is led by junior defensive end Rashan Gary at No. 8, junior linebacker Devin Bush Jr. at No. 22 and fifth-year defensive end Chase Winovich at No. 46.
Shea Patterson, a junior transfer from Ole Miss, is ranked No. 25.
In the 2017 campaign, Gary logged 66 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss and six sacks. Winovich had 79 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss and five sacks.
Bush accumulated 102 tackles last year, which led the Wolverines. He also added 9.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks.
In seven games for Ole Miss in 2017, Patterson threw for 2,259 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He completed 63.8 percent of his passes.
Patterson is expected to beat out fellow Michigan quarterbacks Brandon Peters, Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton for the starting position this upcoming season.
