Michigan is Akuchie’s dream school.

One of the many prospects to attend Michigan’s BBQ at the Big House is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2019 wide receiver Matthew Akuchie.

He is going for one reason – to receive an offer.

“I hope they offer because if they do, I’ll commit,” Akuchie said.

During the spring, Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown went to St. Thomas Aquinas to meet with a few prospects. That was when Brown and Akuchie had a chance to get to know each other.

“Michigan doesn’t have a true wide receiver commit, so if I perform well at the camp, I’ll be able to get the offer,” Akuchie added.

The 6-foot-3, 187-pound wide receiver has offers from Yale, Columbia, Lehigh and University of Pikeville.

“I didn’t play much last year because of the senior depth we had, so a lot of big schools are looking at me but haven’t offered because they want to see how I play this year,” he mentioned. “I’m expected to start. None of the offers I have right now stand out to me.”

Akuchie is hearing from Purdue, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), UCF and Temple, but he is most focused on the Wolverines.

“Michigan is a dream school of mine,” Akuchie said. “I feel like I’m a Big Ten wide receiver because I have decent size and I like how they utilize athletic guys my size like Donovan Peoples-Jones.”

Two of the people he talks to the most about Michigan is former St. Thomas Aquinas quarterbacks Jake Rudock and John O’Korn. Both signal callers spent time playing for the Wolverines in college.

“I’ve talked to both of them about Michigan and just feel like it would be a great fit for me as a student-athlete,” he stated. “I really like the way the offense is run there.”

Akuchie wants to major in business, which would automatically make him a perfect fit in Ann Arbor.
