Devin Bush Jr. Selected to 2018 Butkus Award Watch List
One Wolverine is on the watch list.
The Butkus Award, established in 1985, is given to the top linebackers at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
Michigan junior linebacker Devin Bush Jr. has made the watch list for the college-level Butkus Award.
In the 2017 season, Bush accumulated 102 tackles to lead the Wolverines as a sophomore. He added 9.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks.
Michigan State’s Joe Bachie was also on the watch list. Bush and Bachie were among those on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, which is given to the best defensive player in college football.
Rashan Gary and Chase Winovich were other Michigan names on the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list.
The Butkus Award watch list included 51 players and the group will be cut to semifinalists on Oct. 29, finalists on Nov. 19 and a winner will be picked on Dec. 4.
In 1989, Michigan State’s Percy Snow won the Butkus award. Michigan’s Erick Anderson took it home in 1991.
Other winners include Patrick Willis, Von Miller, Luke Kuechly, Manti Te’o and Rueben Foster. In 2017, the award was given to Georgia’s Roquan Smith.
