Two Wolverines are on the watch list.

The Maxwell Award is given to the best all-around football player in the nation and two Michigan players are on the watch list – junior quarterback Shea Patterson and senior running back Karan Higdon.

In seven games for Ole Miss in 2017, Patterson threw for 2,259 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He completed 63.8 percent of his passes.

Patterson is expected to beat out fellow Michigan quarterbacks Brandon Peters, Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton for the starting position this upcoming season.

The other member on the Maxwell Award watch list from the Wolverines is Higdon, who was a member of the three-headed running back monster Michigan featured in 2017.

Higdon carried the ball 164 times for 994 yards and 11 touchdowns. Chris Evans is expected to back him up in 2018.

Michigan’s last Maxwell Award winner was Desmond Howard in 1991. Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield (2017), Louisville’s Lamar Jackson (2016) and Alabama’s Derrick Henry (2015) are the most recent recipients.
