Michigan Makes Top 3 for 5-Star Point Guard DJ Carton

Can Michigan basketball pull in the elite point guard?

He would look good in maize and blue.

247Sports has Bettendorf (IA) 6-foot-2, 195-pound point guard DJ Carton as a five-star prospect, rated 22nd overall, and the second-best PG in the 2019 recruiting class. And on Sunday night, Michigan made his final cut.

Carton had previously trimmed his list to six on May 10, featuring four Big Ten schools — Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State — as well as Xavier and Marquette. Nearly two months later, Carton cut that number in half, eliminating the non-B1G schools and his home-state school, he announced on Twitter.

Primarily recruited by Wolverines defensive guru Luke Yaklich, Michigan has 92% of the 247Sports Crystal Ball in its favor, with 13 predictions as of current (there’s still one lone prediction for Wisconsin, placed over a year ago).

Michigan currently has one commit for the 2019 class, in Denton (TX) Guyer four-star small forward, Jalen Wilson, who committed to the Wolverines at the end of May.

The inclusion of the Wolverines in Carton’s top three is great news, especially as Michigan appears to be fading for NY combo guard Joseph Girard, who the maize and blue once appeared to be leading for. As of late, there have been a run of 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Syracuse.
