There’s a possibility that may happen in the near future.

Again.

In 2012, after Denard Robinson went down with an arm injury, Michigan turned to the quarterback of the future in Devin Gardner, who started under center every game but one for the rest of his Wolverines career. In 2012, however, with Robinson unable to throw, we started to see a package with Gardner at quarterback and Robinson lined up behind or next to him.

It may have only been for two games, but now there’s a possibility that the two former Wolverines could find themselves in a similar package.

Just two weeks ago, Devin Gardner made a move to remain in North America for his pro football career, signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders after spending the past two seasons playing in Japan. Robinson has been out of football for the past year, but made his mark with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team’s versatile “offensive weapon.” After a handful of team auditions last summer, Robinson never landed with another NFL franchise, but his rights ended up belonging to the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts. Per CFL site 3 Down Nation, the squad who just acquired Gardner now have the rights to Robinson.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have acquired the rights to offensive weapon Denard Robinson in the trade for defender Eric Striker.

Robinson is currently a free agent and he’s been out of pro football since 2016. Sources indicated that Robinson could potentially be close to coming north of the border.

The only player in NCAA to eclipse over 1,500 yards passing and rushing in a single season, Robinson also broke Michigan’s single game record for total offense, with 502 yards against Notre Dame in 2010.

In the NFL, Robinson played in 54 games in four seasons, starting in 13. He accumulated 1,041 yards rushing in 259 attempts with five touchdowns, and caught 47 passes for 310 yards.
