A Little More on 5-star MSU OL Commit Devontae Dobbs' Thoughts on Michigan

Adding to how Michigan faltered in the recruitment of in-state five-star offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs from Belleville (MI).

A Little More on 5-star MSU OL Commit Devontae Dobbs’ Thoughts on Michigan

Yes, I’m the kid who published the story on Belleville (Mich.) 2019 5-star offensive lineman Devontae Dobbs.

And, I have a little more to add.

Along with everything that was said in my one-on-one interview with Dobbs, he also shed some more interesting information on the Wolverines, that which I did not include in the WLUN ESPN 100.9-FM story.

Frankly, I did not want to make the story about Michigan and Michigan State. I wanted it to be about his commitment journey, sharing the track record of the ups and downs in his recruitment.

I believe that I successfully did that.

Anyway, there’s a little more to the story.

To go with calling the Jim Harbaugh and his staff robots to their face, and slamming USC and Ohio State, Dobbs actually made a low-key trip back to Ann Arbor on June 18 for Michigan’s camp.

He went to be with his Belleville High School teammates, but Michigan offensive line coach Ed Warinner attempted to make conversation.

“I went up there (in early June, 2018) because they had a camp up there. I wasn’t going up there to look at them, I was just going to pick up my teammates at the camp,” Dobbs exclaimed. “Coach Ed Warinner came up to me and we talked for a hot second. I’m pretty sure they are going to stop recruiting me because that’s what it seems (Jim) Harbaugh is going to do. Hopefully they do (stop) because I don’t want them to waste their time.”

Dobbs hinted that Warinner was making another attempt to recruit him. Instead of continuing the conversation to talk about his recruitment, Dobbs shut it down.

Just a few days later, he pushed all other teams out of the way by committing to Michigan State.
