George Johnson III Commits to Michigan

Michigan football got yet another 2019 commitment on Monday, with dynamic Stuart (FL) Martin County athlete George Johnson III’s pledge.

You can’t teach speed, and you can’t teach athleticism.

Two traits that 2019 Stuart (FL) Martin County dual-threat quarterback and wide receiver George Johnson III has in spades.

Florida State was once seen as the leader for the explosive three-star athlete, but after a weekend visit to Ann Arbor, the tide completely changed.

Johnson already had a set commitment time for Monday evening, and when that time came, it turned out that Michigan felt more like home than the school on the opposite coast of Florida, as the 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete chose Ann Arbor over Tallahassee, he announced on via the TCPalm newspaper.

My decision for college is based off the academics, future teammates, coaches and if I see myself living in the area for the next few years of my life.

I’ve visited several schools, and Michigan will be where I’ll be playing football for the next three to four years of my life.

In addition to Florida State and Michigan, Johnson chose the Wolverines over offers from Georgia, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati. While FSU had been the expected choice, he only received his offer from the Seminoles during his June 20th unofficial visit.

Johnson was recruited by Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown and wide receivers coach Jim McElwain, and is expected to be a wideout at the next level. He’s rated by the 247Sports Composite as the 947th-best recruit in the 2019 class, and the 85th-rated athlete.

With Johnson in the fold, he’s the Wolverines’ 16th commitment in the 2019 class.

Michigan jumps all the way up to fifth in 247Sports’ Team Rankings with his pledge to the class — which is tops in the Big Ten Conference.
