Sunday Thoughts: Michigan Football’s Big Recruiting Weekend

Some quick thoughts and tidbits about Michigan football’s big recruiting weekend.

Sunday Thoughts: Michigan Football’s Big Recruiting Weekend

One target has dropped for the maize and blue. More to follow?

It was a huge weekend for Michigan, as the Wolverines hosted a big number of some of their top targets in Ann Arbor.

Of course, the headliner was top overall recruit in 2019 Lewis Center (OH) Olentangy Orange five-star DE Zach Harrison. In case you missed it, we heard good things in regards to how the visit went, which you can read about at the link below.

As of this writing, Michigan has since secured the commitment of 2019 Fairfield (OH) three-star TE Erick All, who’s emerging as a big tight end prospect. While the Wolverines weren’t able to get  their overall top target at the position in Luke Deal, this is beyond a solid consolation prize, as All comes in with ideal size at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, and should fit in nicely with what Michigan is trying to do with that unit under Sherrone Moore. Not to mention, the last time Michigan brought in a three-star Ohio prospect at TE, it worked out pretty well (see: Butt, Jake).

Also of note, Michigan hosted 2019 Grand Rapids (MI) East Kentwood DT four-star Mazi Smith for the umpteenth time, but for this, his official visit. Smith is arguably the top interior target for the Wolverines, and the staff has put on a full-court press since the offseason began, getting him back to campus for multiple basketball games. He has 100% of his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Michigan, and, based off what I’m hearing, he could drop sooner than later for the maize and blue.

Another player I’m hearing good things about is 2019 Frankfort (KY) Western Hills three-star all-purpose back Wandale Robinson. Robinson has offers from Alabama and Ohio State, but has been spending a lot of time engaging with Michigan Twitter as of late, even noting when Andre Seldon committed last week: “might have to join you!” He posted a pic of himself in maize and blue at The Big House on Sunday, and sources close to the program feel optimistic about him potentially joining the class rather soon.

Another target who will be deciding soon that Michigan feels good about is 2019 Stuart (FL) Martin County three-star George Johnson III, an athlete that the staff seems to be targeting at WR (he’s also a dual-threat QB). Johnson has a 100% 247Sports Crystal Ball in favor of Florida State, but don’t sleep on the Wolverines here.

2019 Suwannee (GA) North Gwinnett three-star CB DJ Turner has been a long-time target for Michigan, and recruiting guru Chris Partridge has been leading the charge there. He also made his official visit to campus this weekend, and we’re hearing that things went very well there, as well. Considering that he’s planning to make his decision known on Monday, good news should be coming for Michigan here.

Final note: he wasn’t on campus this weekend, but expect Michigan to continue to put everything they have to bring in five-star safety prospect Daxton Hill. It’s going to be a battle for the 8th-overall prospect, with schools like Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma in chase. We’re hearing that Michigan is looking to get him back on campus for his official sooner than later, and, along with Harrison, are making Hill the top priority with an eye of him eventually donning a winged helmet.
