After several visits to campus, the 2019 four-star is ready to call Ann Arbor home.

Michigan has been in heavy pursuit of 2019 Grand Rapids (MI) East Kentwold four-star defensive tackle Mazi Smith for a long time now. The 123rd-ranked prospect in 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite, has made multiple visits over the course of the past year, including to several football and basketball games.

After having his official visit to campus this past weekend, Smith announced that he’s seen all he needs to see, making his commitment to the maize and blue official Sunday night.

It was Michigan’s third commitment of the day, having added TE Erick All and RB Zach Charbonnet.

At 6-foot-3, 290-pounds, Smith adds needed bulk to the defensive side of the ball, as the first committed interior lineman in the class and the fourth defensive lineman to pledge to the Wolverines in 2019.

Smith was part of a star-studded weekend visit slate over the weekend, which included commits Chris Hinton and Charles Thomas, and top targets such as Zach Harrison — the top-rated player overall in the class — Lewis Cine and Aeneas DiCosmo.

Thomas posted a picture on Sunday of the defensive commits and targets together in uniform, on the field at The Big House.

The commitment was long anticipated, as the 247Sports Crystal Ball was 100% in favor of the maize and blue.

Smith picked Michigan over offers from Ohio State, MSU, Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame.
