Michigan Recruiting: Wolverines Offer In-State 2023 Quarterback

As a 2023 prospect, Dante Moore has a long wait before reports to college.

But the Detroit (MI) Spartans quarterback already has one big suitor at the college level.

After working out for the Michigan coaching staff on Monday during the Wolverines camp circuit, Moore impressed the staff so much that the maize and blue wanted to get into the fray early for the local product, offering the seventh grade prospect at the conclusion of the camp. Moore reported the offer on Twitter on Monday night.

And Moore already has an ally who knows what it takes to helm the maize and blue: former Michigan starting quarterback Devin Gardner.

Though younger than most, Moore works out frequently with Gardner, and the former Wolverines QB has been impressed with his stature at such an early age. Gardner spoke with WolverinesWire about what he’s seen from Moore and why he’s already able to make such a strong impression, based off what he’s seen.

“The best thing about him, aside from the fact that he can make most all the throws that high school kids make, is he’s really just a young kid who enjoys working hard and playing football!” Gardner told WolverinesWire. “He’s a great kid who’s respectful and focused on all the right things, which for him right now are doing well in school, playing football, working out, playing soccer, doing his chores, and just being a KID!”

When Moore heard he got the offer, he was obviously ecstatic. He told WolverinesWire that he knows he’ll have to continue to earn the right to keep the offer and that it will keep him motivated to keep growing as he matures as a quarterback.

“They said class of 2023? Big man showing out!” Moore said. “(We) liked how you worked out in this past week and wanted to get your hunger up. And (we’re) glad you have showed that on the field. After I said, ‘Thanks, coach!’ I will be willing to work 10x harder and look for brighter light!”

For the time being, Michigan will continue to work to add to the 2019 recruiting cycle, currently underway, with Reno (NV) Damonte Ranch signal caller Cade McNamara, who earned his invite to The Opening, having flipped from Notre Dame months ago.
