One Michigan WR Making Strong Spring/Summer Impression

A surprising name has emerged among Michigan’s best receivers this offseason.

Sources indicate the two usual suspects have taken a big leap forward, but multiple have indicated a walk-on has made big strides recently.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said on his weekly podcast that multiple walk-ins are making noise this offseason.

Whether that’s pure summer hype or being used as a motivational tactic for the Wolverines cadre of talented wideouts remains to be seen, but multiple sources told WolverinesWire that one walk-on receiver in particular has continued to make waves since winter conditioning started.

While we’re told that second-year WRs Donovan Peoples-Jones and Tarik Black have continued their impressive ascent from a year ago, a name we keep hearing come up is a fellow second-year receiver from Solon(OH): walk-on Jake McCurry.

One source told WolverinesWire that McCurry’s ascent has been notable across the entire team.

The other had stronger remarks:

“As far as strides, Jake has gotten a lot better and works extremely hard. (He’s a) real grinder.”

Such praise for a walk-on isn’t unwarranted. Last offseason, the hype train centered around walk-on Nate Schoenle, who ended up pulling in four receptions for 41 yards on top of being a special teams standout, notching seven tackles in 11 games.
